Project Abstract

Owners, Don & Jennifer Ferguson are building an custom single-family residence in the countryside, near Cataldo, Idaho - a rural township in the Pacific Northwest Rockies.  The building site lies upon a 20-acre equestrian ranch of rolling meadows and trees. Views are territorial mountain and wildlife is abundant.

This 6500 square foot log home with an additional 1500 square feet of conventionally built composition, will serve as full time residence for the owners.  The Ferguson family lives on the ranch in an existing home; this slated for removal upon completion of the new residence.  The contemporary log home design reveals influence from native American and Japanese long houses and further features natural wood, stone, exposed structural timbers, rustic metal fasteners, architectural lighting, SMART home technology, solar thermodynamics, and an independent back-up electrical system*.  The interior style characterizes western lodge style designs with early Craftsman era accents, complementing the owners' substantial collection of wildlife trophy mounts.

The design is LEED for Homes partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council and includes a media room design by Dolby Surround, DTS, and THX certified A/V engineer.
